British Fashion/Textile Designer, Ms. Ellen Rock conducted a Workshop for select NCFT faculty, graduates and students on April 25 and April 28, 2019 at the college. The workshop was facilitated by the British Council Nepal as part of its Crafting Futures project that was supported by NCFT.

Ms. Rock trained the participants on her personal approaches to employing craft skills and artisans in her Fashion Line during the workshop, that aimed to encourage young/emerging Nepali designers to create ethical and aesthetically collaborative partnerships with stakeholders from the crafts sector.

The first day’s sessions consisted of a presentation by Ms. Rock outlining her career profile and brand history followed by sessions on mood board and concept development, mark making and the participants being assigned to research national and international designers who use sustainable craft practices.

Ms. Rock presented on contemporary UK based and international designers/brands using traditional craft and artisanship in their works followed by a discussion on them during the second day’s session. Likewise, the participants shared their own research on such Nepali designers/brands using sustainable craft practices. The workshop ended with the participants creating an illustrative line-up incorporating textures, patterns and artisan crafts based on their mood boards and concept development.

Prof. Dr. Ghanshyam Lal Das (Vice Chancellor, Purbanchal University) who visited NCFT on April 28 also briefly observed the workshop.
